Best of the Gold Coast: The Cuban Bar & Lounge Dining

The Cuban in Broadbeach is not simply a bar or restaurant....it's a dining experience. We figured this out pretty quickly after arriving last Saturday for lunch. There is a shortage of Cuban restaurants in Queensland. It's a shame because Cuban food is INCREDIBLE. Luckily, The Cuban is here to satisfy all of your cravings...

The Cuban is located in the exclusive Oracle in Broadbeach. It is inspired by the original party island of Cuba. During the American prohibition the rich & famous would travel to Cuba for a little taste of the Cuban lifestyle. Cuban food draws inspiration from Latin America, Spain, and the Caribbean. The restaurant is broken up into two different sections. The bar area is very stylish decked out with plush leather chairs, decorative golden fans, and artwork paying homage to "Old Cuba". You instantly feel like lighting up a cigar and relaxing into one of those big leather chairs with a drink upon entering. The have definitely captured the essence of Cuba pre-revolution.

The outdoors area has a more relaxed, casual atmosphere. This is where we sat to have lunch. We began our Cuban adventure with a few drinks and an assortment of tapas.

For our drinks we had a Cuban Mojito and a Bucanero (cuban lager)...

The Cuban not only has cuban beers available for purchase but also a large collection of rum....

The Cuban Mojito was beautifully prepared. So refreshing- with a perfect flavour balance and just the right amount of fresh mint leaves.

For $30 per person you get a beautiful selection of the chef's favourite tapas which include: spicy, sweet pork with chilli & caramel... spicy lamb Cuban cigars with mint & cucumber yoghurt... prawns in a garlic & chilli cream sauce...chickepeas with warm potato salad tossed with chimmichurri, and corn salsa...and marinated Portobello mushrooms...

Beautiful creamy sauce with fresh, plump prawns...

The pork belly was perfection on a plate...

Fresh ingredients, vibrant colours...

Clean, elegant presentation...

Darrell and I both agree that this is a fantastic deal. The serving sizes are very generous. The tapas were extremely filling. You get to try a large variety of things. Its a great option if you are having lunch/drinks with a few of your closest friends. Our favourites from the set tapas menu were: spicy, sweet pork with chilli & caramel, and the marinated Portobello mushrooms!

For our main we shared The Cuban's signature dish seafood paella which consisted of black mussels, calamari, king prawn, and chorizo tossed in saffron rice with coriander and peas...

The paella bursting with seafood...

We were so full from the tapas that we couldn't finish all of our delicious paella. We gave it a good crack though! As I mentioned the paella is a signature dish at The Cuban and once you have a mouthful of this divine dish you will quickly understand why. The paella was bursty with rich, savoury flavour. Packed full of fresh seafood and juicy chorizo. This paella is a MUST TRY.

We finished off our visit to The Cuban with churros with chocolate dipping sauce & baileys cream...and a traditional Cuban style coffee...

Delicious, rich, warm chocolate sauce....

A perfect end to our Cuban adventure. The churros with chocolate sauce and baileys cream is a fun & tasty dessert- perfect for sharing. Darrell also enjoyed his traditional Cuban coffee. Some of the best coffee we have had on the GC. Cuba is known for its incredible coffee and The Cuban in Broadbeach does not disappoint. We had a excellent experience and will definitely be back!
