Brisbane Burgers: Taps | Fortitude Valley

As you know, we consider ourselves to be somewhat of a Brisbane burger coinnosseur, aficionado if you will...

So when we heard, Taps in Fortitude valley had recently launched a brand new menu that now included an epic burger lineup we moseyed on down to the valley to check it out. It was our civil duty. The things we do for you guys..

Like any good idea, the Taps we know today was born over an ice cold beer. During a trip to Europe in 2008 during Oktoberfest owner Steve Barber discovered a pub where each nationality sat at their own table with a screen above a tap counting how much beer had been knocked back. Brits, Germans, Aussies and Irish in a battle to the death.

Aussies won of course, and Steve left Europe inspired to start a bar of his own one day. After discussing it with his mates over a few rounds of beer Taps Mooloolaba started to take shape. In 2015 Taps opened up a second bar in Fortitude Valley, with expansion throughout Australia yet to come.

Taps is leading the Self-Service beer revolution! What the hell does that mean, you ask? Well unlike your typical run of the mill pub, Taps invites guests to be their own bartender. The venue features an impressive wall of taps which can be accessed by guests using a special key. The tables also feature their own private taps! Just sit back, relax, and drink to your heart's content...

And just when you thought this place couldn't get any more awesome, they went and added a burger menu! The menu features a number of sensational burger creations like the Clogger (Medium Rare Beef Pattie + Bacon + Creamy Mac n Cheese) and one of the best damn fried chicken sandwiches we have every had (Crispy Fried Chicken + Bacon + Cheddar Cheese + Jalapeno Mayo).

Don't worry Sunshine Coast foodies, the new burger menu will be launching at Taps Mooloolaba very soon.

How To Get Free Wine At Your Favourite Restaurant

Yes, you read that headline correctly we said F R E E  W I N E!

You're probably thinking the following things: "How is this possible?" "Is this click bait?" "If there was a way to get free wine I would know about it!!!"

Well, that's where you'd be wrong.... It is possible and this is most definitely not click bait.

There is an app in existence, downloadable right now (!!!) that will grant you a FREE bottle of quality vino just for dining at some of the best restaurants in Brisbane. Think of it as the fairy godmother you've always wanted! Yes, Cinderella you will go to the wine cellar!

The free wine was created by Zenith Wine Agencies, a specialist on-premise wine importer and wholesaler, rated in the Top 20 national and east coast on-premise distributors in Australia.

The app is free to download and features over 300 restaurants, Australia wide!

1. Download the app, available here
2. Find your location (Brisbane, Sydney, Melb...etc )
3. Choose your restaurant (Some restaurants require a minimum spend which ranges from $50 to $100)
4. Select a bottle of vino (the app typically offers user a choice between red or white)
5. Show your waiter your selection
6. That's it! Enjoy your free wine!

Simple, quick, and very easy to use! We gave it a test run for ourselves a few weeks ago at Modern Thai in Mt Gravatt and were VERY impressed. The minimum spend for Modern Thai was $100 but honestly if you are out on a date or with a group of friends your likely to spend that (if not more) anyways. Might as well enjoy a free bottle of red for your trouble!

Consider this our Christmas gift to you, to download this incredible new app, click here

Queensland Welcomes Legend of the Seas

Queenslanders rejoice! The river city will be the new home of Royal Caribbean's 70,000 ton extravagant cruise liner, Legend of the Seas! This is the first time ever that Royal Caribbean International has based a ship in the sunny state of Queensland. The new local legend will arrive in her new home on tomorrow (Tuesday, December 8) and will sail our waters until April next year. Her arrival is expected to inject an incredible 24 million dollars into the Queensland economy (and that's just with passenger spend alone!)

“We are thrilled to welcome Legend of the Seas to her brand new home.  We have been working towards basing a ship in Brisbane since opening our Australia office in 2009 – so it’s a great pleasure to finally deliver Queenslanders with an international style of cruising, right on their doorstep,” said Adam Armstrong, Regional Commercial Director, Royal Caribbean International.

A trip on Legend of the Seas is guaranteed to be unforgettable. The vessel recently underwent an extensive 50 million dollar revitalization and now features world class facilities you are unlikely to find on any other cruise liner. Like,Central Atrium where high flying acrobats put on an incredible aerial show, an outdoor rock climbing wall for active travelers to test their skill, a mini golf course, indoor adults-only swimming pool for more leisurely pursuits,  a babies nursery, a pool-side big screen showing movies and sports games, an 800-seat theatre with Broadway style productions, the Vitality Spa & Fitness centre, a beauty salon and a shopping arcade.

And most importantly the FOOD! Legend of the Seas is a gourmand's paradise. The on board dining offering is sure to satisfy with six options including three specialty restaurants – a Japanese restaurant called Izumi, Royal Caribbean’s signature steakhouse Chops Grille and the 12-seat Chef’s Table private dining room. She also features a stunning two-deck grand dining room.

During her five month season, Legend of the Seas will embark on 15 itineraries in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific ranging from 2 to 18 nights.  The ship will return to Brisbane for an extended summer season October 2016. I don't know about you, but we'll be asking Santa for a dream cruise on board this beautiful vessel this year.

Is this Brisbane's Best Burger? | Bens Burgers

In a world full of EXTREME- "How The Hell Do I Eat This Thing?" burgers, Ben's Burger is the light at the end of a very dark tunnel...Burger purist rejoice!

Ben's Burger is located on 5 Winn Street, Winn Lane, Fortitude Valley. The classic burger joint opened it's doors last year, and is the creation of brothers Ben and Nick Chiu. Ben's specializes in traditional American burgers, shakes, and fries done exceptionally well in a laid back setting.

Even though the trend lately seems to be BIGGER is better when it comes to burgers, Ben's has managed to secure it's spot in the Brisbane burger scene by doing simple, quality cheeseburgers.

If you ask any Brisbanite where you can get a good burger. Ben's is sure to get a mention. So, having tried our fair share of Brisbane burgers we went along to see for ourselves - Is this really Brisbane's best burger???

Well, it all depends on your preference. The quality is definitely there. This was one of the tastiest burgers I've had in a while. The buns were soft yet firm, and golden brown. The gooey, melted American cheese was spot on. Being from America myself, I can honestly say this burger was one of the closest I've found to a traditional American cheeseburger. After one bite I was homesick!

The patties were beautifully seasoned and the perfect thickness. If only they had been cooked for a few less minutes, this burger would have easily taken out our top spot! But like I said it all comes down to your personal preference. If you are a fan of 'well done' burger patties then we highly suggest you try Ben's. You will NOT be disappointed.

And don't get me wrong, Ben's Burgers are dishing out some of the best burgers in town. Medium rare or not- we will definitely be back.

Zepickle Brisbane Opens It's Doors | Fortitude Valley

The kings of the Gold Coast burger scene have just opened a new joint in Fortitude Valley, and it's seriously all anyone can talk about.

Ever since Zepickle announced plans to open a shop in Brisbane months ago, burger lovers have gone MAD with anticipation. The Zepickle opening was second only to Christmas day. And for good reason- these guys are trendsetters, one only need take a peek at their killer menu to see what all the fuss is about!

The new, industrial styled, 120 seater shop is located on Prospect Street, a few minutes walk from the Emporium.

ZePickle are widely known for their outrageously delicious creations like the Pablo Escoburger (Ground Waygu Beef, Cheese, Guac, Queso, Smoked Jalapenos, Corn Chips, ZP Sauce), 4:20AM (Crispy Fried Chicken, Double Jack Cheese, Smoked Honey w. Bacon laced Waffle Buns made ENTIRELY OUT OF MAC N CHEESE), and the heart stopping Triple Loco (3x Hand Pressed Waygu Patties, Triple Jack Cheese, Triple Smoked Bacon, Pulled Pork, Smoked Jalapenos, Iceberg, Tomato, ZP sauce, Mum's Slaw, between Two Grilled Cheese Sandwiches!!!) to name a few.

Even though the burgers are extreme, quality is never sacrificed. This, we believe,  is the secret behind ZePickle's raging success. Well that paired with the electric party like atmosphere and very talented bartenders...

The ZePickle train is showing no signs of slowing down either, with the team set to open a shop in Sydney this February!

Zepickle Brisbane is open Tuesday to Friday 5PM to 9PM & Saturday to Sunday 12PM to 10PM

For more information on all things ZePickle head to their website, click here.

Gold Coast Burger Joints | Obsessions on Chevron

If you've been following our foodie adventures on Instagram then YOU KNOW we enjoy a good burger. We've roamed the streets of Brisbane many a Saturday nights in search of a tender, juicy meat pattie drowned in cheese and shoved between to golden brown buns...

Only recently have we begun venturing to the Gold Coast to get our weekend burger fix...In case you weren't aware the burger scene on the GC is LEGIT.  So many quality burger joints are taking up residence on the sunny coast of Queensland. If you ask a local where the best burgers are, we know one joint that is sure to get a couple thousand mentions...

Obsessions on Chevron

Obsessions opened its doors in early 2014, and blessed us all with one of the most extensive and insane menus we've ever seen. **A warning***...these burgers are likely to induce a heart attack or some kind of episode...but hey... At least you'll die happy and well fed!

Obessions rose to infamy for it's challenge burger, fittingly named '7 Circles of Hell'. Although it's not the biggest burger they have, it almost guaranteed to have you breathing actual flames. You see, the burger contains the hottest chilies in the world, to even compete you have to sign a release from AND wear gloves. Intense. The challenge has been attempted by many but only a few legends have managed to defeat the dragon and have their name etched on the winner's board.

You'll find Waygu, Lamb, Fish, Pork, Chicken, AND Vego burgers on the menu at Obsessions. Along chicken wings, loaded fries, extreme milkshakes, cocktails and decadent nutella drowned desserts. Need we say more?

Obessessions on Chevron is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:30AM to 10PM. For more info check them out on Facebook - Click Here.

One Night at The Grand Chancellor | Brisbane

If you are in search of a solid accommodation option for those spontaneous weekend adventures in the city, then the Grand Chancellor is sure to tick all of your boxes.

Located opposite the vibrant Roma Street Parklands, just 7 minutes walk from Grand Central Station- the Grand Chancellor Brisbane offers guest affordability without sacrificing comfort.

The Grand Chancellor Brisbane is located on 23 Leichardt Street, one of the highest points in the Brisbane Central Business District. The hotel boasts 230 rooms and suites along with a restaurant, bar, fitness centre, pool, and function room.

After booking our room through the Hotel Tonight APP for the AH-MAZING price of $118 (on a Friday night!) we honestly weren't expecting much when we walked through the doors. So you can imagine our surprise when we were greeted by this chic little lobby!

Photo via Grand Chancellor

The Grand Chancellor recently underwent a major refurb, breathing new life into their lobby, and conference centre. Even a few of the accommodation floors received the magic touch. We've got our fingers crossed that it spreads to the entire hotel soon! If you are lucky enough to snag a room on the newly refurb'd fllors, you are in for quite the shock once you step out of the elevator. We seriously though we had been magically transported to a different hotel...

Due to a faulty air conditioner, we were lucky enough to experience this for ourselves. Sadly, our room change happened at around 1AM so we weren't able to really enjoy (or take photos). You'll have to take our word when we say the room was VERY nice.

Now back to our original room...and although it may not have been as glamorous as the new floors it still managed to satisfy us without breaking the bank!

During our visit at the Grand Chancellor we stayed in a Superior Room. Superior rooms are located on the first & second floors along with some of the high floors which offer guests unspoiled views of the city and parklands.

The room comes with a King Bed, Bluetooth digital radio, an espresso machine, designer bathroom amenities, fluffy bathrobes, slippers, complimentary wifi, complimentary Voss water and a complimentary snack.

Although the styling of the room was pretty basic we were still satisfied that we had gotten more than our money's worth. The room was spotless, the bed was plush,  and we had our own private balcony with a worthwhile view. It was truly a steal for under $150. What more could you ask for!

Let's be real, if you are having a staycation in the city you most likely be looking for a comfy place to nurse your hangover after a fun night. We can say from personal experience that the Grand Chancellor is the perfect crash pad.

For more information on the Grand Chancellor Brisbane, visit their website - click here.

There's nothing worse than when you're stuffing your face with a plate of fried chicken waffles, and you have to watch your Paleo friend sadly fiddling with their plate of lacklustre scrambled eggs...Right?! Total vibe killer.

Heat Busters | Brisbane's Best Cold Desserts

We have a love/hate relationship with Brisbane summers...

On one hand we love all of the awesome new outdoors activities that summertime brings like... the royal croquet club, open air cinemas, and summer night markets...but on the other hand who the hell wants to venture out into the sweltering Brisbane heat, and leave the comfort of their air conditioned home to participate in these activities?!

Here are our favourite heat busting cold desserts in Brisbane:

Ruby the Little Red Ice Cream Van | Mobile Food Truck

Along with being one of the most adorable vehicles on four wheels, Ruby the Little Red Ice Cream Van dishes out some of the best classic ice cream cones you have ever seen. The Top 5 Best Hot Dogs in Brisbane

Frankly, we relish the opportunity to share our favourite hot dog joints in Brisbane with you, lovely reader!

When we look for the perfect hot dog there are 3 VERY IMPORTANT things we consider... Those things are: Bun Quality, Condiment Quality, and (most importantly) how well the sausage is cooked.

We've tried our fair share of hot dogs, and these 5 have passed every one of our tests. So without further ado, here's where you can find the best hot dogs in Brisbane:

Mr. America Hot Dogs & Fries | Food Truck
If anyone knows what it takes to make a great hot dog it's Mr. America Hot Dogs & Fries! These guys have spent countless hours studying the classic American hot dog, and have the art of hot dogging down to a science. We can always count on them for a great dog, and for under $10 - can't beat it! To find out where Mr. America Food Truck is rolling to next, check them out on Facebook - click here.

Red Hook | Brisbane CBD
Yes, not only do Red Hook serve up some of the most epic, taste tingling, juicy cheeseburgers you have every seen. They also do a pretty mean kransky hot dog with bbq onion, American pickle, and crispy shallots!

Lavosh Patisserie | Red Hill
Now you wouldn't expect to find the hot dog of your dreams at Lavosh Patisserie. This well established Red Hill patisserie is widely revered for its killer freshly baked bagels, but on a bagel run over the weekend we learned that they whip up one hell of a chili dog. Loaded up with spicy chili and cheese, the chili dog comes with a side of tortilla chips which we thoroughly enjoyed stuffing inside the bun for a nice crunch!

These gourmet dogs are guaranteed to put a smile on your face with creations like the Caramelised Onion & Crispy French Fries, and Bourbon BBQ. Where To Find The Best Dumplings in Brisbane

Ahhh...Dumplings - no matter how many we consume by the dozens we never seem to tire of these delicious, savory satchels...

The possibilities are endless with what you can stuff inside a dumpling wrapper. Pork, Chicken, Beef, Seafood..we've yet to find a combination we didn't like. It's the gift that keeps on giving!

If you consider yourself a dumpling fiend too, this is a hit list you'll enjoy. Here's where you can find the best dumplings in Brisbane:

Now you couldn't consider yourself a legitimate dumpling fiend if you haven't tried New Shanghai. New Shanghai is located in Queens Plaza in the Brisbane CBD. It's widely known among Brisbanites as dumpling nirvana. This place has a reputation for dishing out some of Brisbane's most satisfying dumpling creations. Every time we visit, it never fails, there's a line out of the door. The wait isn't too bad, and once you sit down to enjoy your freshly made dumplings you'll realize it was all worth it! One thing we really love about New Shanghai is that you can see the entire dumpling making process from the window outside of the restaurant, from start to finish. We do love a behind the scenes peek!

Dumpling Republic is located upstairs in the Wintergarden, Queen Street Mall. The restaurant specializes in fresh, flavoursome, handcrafted dumplings. The menu is extensive and features a variety of different dumplings like: steamed pork and crab, chicken and leek, and waygu beef & onion.

Happy Little Dumplings make fresh, nutritious, and delicious dumplings that are guaranteed to put a smile on your face! The restaurant was created by two close friends, who had a desire to fuse Chinese & Japanese staple favourites with a Western twist. What do we love about Happy Little Dumplings? The dumplings are quick and very tasty. Perfect for a fast bite, if you are on the go!

Moving outside of the CBD, Little Red Dumpling is a solid option if you find yourself on Brisbane's south side. Located in Pineland Plaza in Sunnybank Hills, Little Red specializes in beautiful, hand crafted fresh dumplings paired with icy cold beer. We have spent many a Saturday night chowing down on their Pan Fried Pork Dumplings, and washing it back with a Tsing Tao!

Where's your favourite spot to grab dumplings? Let us know in the comments section!

6 Reasons Why You Should Get In Bed With Crowne Plaza Terrigal

Crowne Plaza Terrigal is unlike any beach accommodation we've stayed at before...

It's the kind of place that leaves a lasting impression. Long after our trip to the cosy, Central Coast town of Terrigal, NSW we're still dreaming of our AMAZING suite at Crowne Plaza.

We needed a break and this hotel provided the perfect escape. So without further ado (as if our mouthwatering food pics weren't encouragement enough...)

Here are 6 reasons why you should get in bed with Crowne Plaza Terrigal:

1. The hotel is GORGEOUS.

Seriously, cudos, to whoever designed this's incredible. The first word that comes to mind when I think about Crowne Plaza Terrigal is GRAND. Pearly white floors, winding staircases, ornate cornices, classic furnishings, and intriguing works of art fill this palatial accommodation.

As soon as we stepped through the glossy revolving doors we knew we were in for a luxurious week. If you are looking for a taste of the good life, look no further than Crowne Plaza Terrigal. The beautifully appointed hotel and the very attentive staff will have you feeling like a King (or Queen)!

2. VERY Central Location

Crowne Plaza Terrigal is the heart of Terrigal, NSW. The beach is directly across the road, and some of Terrigal's best restaurants and shopping destinations are only minutes walk! Your car never needs to leave the parking garage. If you're like me and desperately crave seafood anytime you're near the ocean check out Blue Bell's Seafood next door to Florida Beach Bar. The food is quick and the service is excellent. Grab takeaway and enjoy your lunch by the sea.

3. Immaculate Suites

"If only we could actually live in this suite forever..." That's exactly what you'll be thinking once you step foot into the Terrace Suite at Crowne Plaza Terrigal. It was magnificent! We've stayed in suites before that - to be honest - really didn't feel like suites or weren't worth the crazy expensive nightly rate the hotel was charging. This was not one of those times. THIS was a suite.

The room was HUGE and had all the luxurious touches you'd expect with a suite. Plush robes, generous sized lounge room, private balcony, plush king bed, and a beautiful porcelain spa bath to soak away all your troubles in!

There's nothing quite like watching the sunset over the beach, as you stand enjoying the coastal breezes sweeping through your room, high up on your private balcony.

Checking out was one of the most difficult things we have EVER had to do...

4. Foodie's Playground

If you've been following our Crowne Plaza adventures for the last few weeks then you know we did not go hungry... How could we with some many quality dining options available at your fingertips!! Degustations, high teas, buffets, pub grub, tapas...the list goes on. If you are expecting your typical lacklustre hotel food then think again! The dining team at Crowne Plaza Terrigal are world class, serving up quality, thoughtfully prepared meals.
