Brisbane Burgers: Taps | Fortitude Valley

As you know, we consider ourselves to be somewhat of a Brisbane burger coinnosseur, aficionado if you will...

So when we heard, Taps in Fortitude valley had recently launched a brand new menu that now included an epic burger lineup we moseyed on down to the valley to check it out. It was our civil duty. The things we do for you guys..

A HISTORY LESSON...

Like any good idea, the Taps we know today was born over an ice cold beer. During a trip to Europe in 2008 during Oktoberfest owner Steve Barber discovered a pub where each nationality sat at their own table with a screen above a tap counting how much beer had been knocked back. Brits, Germans, Aussies and Irish in a battle to the death.

Aussies won of course, and Steve left Europe inspired to start a bar of his own one day. After discussing it with his mates over a few rounds of beer Taps Mooloolaba started to take shape. In 2015 Taps opened up a second bar in Fortitude Valley, with expansion throughout Australia yet to come.

Taps is leading the Self-Service beer revolution! What the hell does that mean, you ask? Well unlike your typical run of the mill pub, Taps invites guests to be their own bartender. The venue features an impressive wall of taps which can be accessed by guests using a special key. The tables also feature their own private taps! Just sit back, relax, and drink to your heart's content...

And just when you thought this place couldn't get any more awesome, they went and added a burger menu! The menu features a number of sensational burger creations like the Clogger (Medium Rare Beef Pattie + Bacon + Creamy Mac n Cheese) and one of the best damn fried chicken sandwiches we have every had (Crispy Fried Chicken + Bacon + Cheddar Cheese + Jalapeno Mayo).

Don't worry Sunshine Coast foodies, the new burger menu will be launching at Taps Mooloolaba very soon.

How To Get Free Wine At Your Favourite Restaurant

Yes, you read that headline correctly we said F R E E  W I N E!

You're probably thinking the following things: "How is this possible?" "Is this click bait?" "If there was a way to get free wine I would know about it!!!"

Well, that's where you'd be wrong.... It is possible and this is most definitely not click bait.

There is an app in existence, downloadable right now (!!!) that will grant you a FREE bottle of quality vino just for dining at some of the best restaurants in Brisbane. Think of it as the fairy godmother you've always wanted! Yes, Cinderella you will go to the wine cellar!

The free wine was created by Zenith Wine Agencies, a specialist on-premise wine importer and wholesaler, rated in the Top 20 national and east coast on-premise distributors in Australia.

The app is free to download and features over 300 restaurants, Australia wide!

HOW IT WORKS:

1. Download the app, available here
2. Find your location (Brisbane, Sydney, Melb...etc )
3. Choose your restaurant (Some restaurants require a minimum spend which ranges from $50 to $100)
4. Select a bottle of vino (the app typically offers user a choice between red or white)
5. Show your waiter your selection
6. That's it! Enjoy your free wine!

THE VERDICT

Simple, quick, and very easy to use! We gave it a test run for ourselves a few weeks ago at Modern Thai in Mt Gravatt and were VERY impressed. The minimum spend for Modern Thai was $100 but honestly if you are out on a date or with a group of friends your likely to spend that (if not more) anyways. Might as well enjoy a free bottle of red for your trouble!

Consider this our Christmas gift to you, to download this incredible new app, click here

Queensland Welcomes Legend of the Seas

Queenslanders rejoice! The river city will be the new home of Royal Caribbean's 70,000 ton extravagant cruise liner, Legend of the Seas! This is the first time ever that Royal Caribbean International has based a ship in the sunny state of Queensland. The new local legend will arrive in her new home on tomorrow (Tuesday, December 8) and will sail our waters until April next year. Her arrival is expected to inject an incredible 24 million dollars into the Queensland economy (and that's just with passenger spend alone!)

“We are thrilled to welcome Legend of the Seas to her brand new home.  We have been working towards basing a ship in Brisbane since opening our Australia office in 2009 – so it’s a great pleasure to finally deliver Queenslanders with an international style of cruising, right on their doorstep,” said Adam Armstrong, Regional Commercial Director, Royal Caribbean International.

A trip on Legend of the Seas is guaranteed to be unforgettable. The vessel recently underwent an extensive 50 million dollar revitalization and now features world class facilities you are unlikely to find on any other cruise liner. Like,Central Atrium where high flying acrobats put on an incredible aerial show, an outdoor rock climbing wall for active travelers to test their skill, a mini golf course, indoor adults-only swimming pool for more leisurely pursuits,  a babies nursery, a pool-side big screen showing movies and sports games, an 800-seat theatre with Broadway style productions, the Vitality Spa & Fitness centre, a beauty salon and a shopping arcade.

And most importantly the FOOD! Legend of the Seas is a gourmand's paradise. The on board dining offering is sure to satisfy with six options including three specialty restaurants – a Japanese restaurant called Izumi, Royal Caribbean’s signature steakhouse Chops Grille and the 12-seat Chef’s Table private dining room. She also features a stunning two-deck grand dining room.

During her five month season, Legend of the Seas will embark on 15 itineraries in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific ranging from 2 to 18 nights.  The ship will return to Brisbane for an extended summer season October 2016. I don't know about you, but we'll be asking Santa for a dream cruise on board this beautiful vessel this year.

Is this Brisbane's Best Burger? | Bens Burgers

In a world full of EXTREME- "How The Hell Do I Eat This Thing?" burgers, Ben's Burger is the light at the end of a very dark tunnel...Burger purist rejoice!

Ben's Burger is located on 5 Winn Street, Winn Lane, Fortitude Valley. The classic burger joint opened it's doors last year, and is the creation of brothers Ben and Nick Chiu. Ben's specializes in traditional American burgers, shakes, and fries done exceptionally well in a laid back setting.

Even though the trend lately seems to be BIGGER is better when it comes to burgers, Ben's has managed to secure it's spot in the Brisbane burger scene by doing simple, quality cheeseburgers.

If you ask any Brisbanite where you can get a good burger. Ben's is sure to get a mention. So, having tried our fair share of Brisbane burgers we went along to see for ourselves - Is this really Brisbane's best burger???

Well, it all depends on your preference. The quality is definitely there. This was one of the tastiest burgers I've had in a while. The buns were soft yet firm, and golden brown. The gooey, melted American cheese was spot on. Being from America myself, I can honestly say this burger was one of the closest I've found to a traditional American cheeseburger. After one bite I was homesick!

The patties were beautifully seasoned and the perfect thickness. If only they had been cooked for a few less minutes, this burger would have easily taken out our top spot! But like I said it all comes down to your personal preference. If you are a fan of 'well done' burger patties then we highly suggest you try Ben's. You will NOT be disappointed.

And don't get me wrong, Ben's Burgers are dishing out some of the best burgers in town. Medium rare or not- we will definitely be back.
