Where To Find The Best Yiros

A Yiro is a traditional Greek dish served on fluffy fresh pita, lightly scorched on the grill, and filled with pork, chicken, or lamb, with ripe tomato, red onion, parsley, tzatiki and crispy chips.

Sounds pretty good right?

Yiros are the perfect comfort food. So filling and packed with flavour! If you're a yiro fan as well, you are in luck because we've managed to track down the best around. Here's where you can find them:

The Yiros Shop | Fortitude Valley/Southbank/Cannon Hill
The Yiros Shop is without question our favorite places to grab a yiro. Besides being incredibly delicious, The Yiros Shop  is dishing out some of the BIGGEST yiros in town. Bring your appetite because you'll be rolling out the door.

Zeus Street Greek | Southbank
Zeus Street Greek serves up one of the widest ranges of yiros- all under $14. Waygu Beef, Soft Shell Crab, Lamb, and Grilled Haloumi (vegetarian friendly)...Gluten free pita wraps are also available.

Greek Street Grill | Surfers Paradise/Broadbeach
For Gold Coast yiro-lovers we highly recommend a visit to Greek Street Grill. Along with being a mobile food truck, Greek Street Grill has permanent shops in Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach. Even better all of their pita wraps are under $10.

Foodie Friendly Hotels | Rydges Southbank

After completing a massive 30 MILLION dollar redesign, Rydges Southbank is looking better than ever and just in time for it's 20th birthday!

Fun fact: Rydges was the first hotel to call Southbank home. When it opened all those years ago Southbank was no where near the bustling foodie metropolis it is today... On June 20th Rydges Southbank marked its 20th anniversary and the completion of a 3 year massive room redesign project. All 304 rooms, and 64 suites received a facelift. A new stylish color palate of luxe tobacco and burgundy wrap the hotel, accented with avant guarde designer carpet and unlike many of it's competitors all rooms throughout the hotel feature a luxurious KING coil bed.

All this paired with it's prime location make Rydges Southbank the perfect place for a relaxing foodie staycation. In fact, we recently treated ourselves to one! Take a peek inside our magnificent weekend at Rydges Southbank:

OUR ROOM: DELUXE KING RIVER SUITE

Walking into our home for the weekend we'd be lying if we said we didn't feel like a bit of a celebrity...That exlcusive "VIP" feeling just comes naturally when you book one of the best rooms the hotel has to offer. Oh, and the 5 star service we recieved from the staff upon arrival +  the complimentary chocolates and wine that were waiting for us in our room also helped...But enough about all that, let's take a gander at the suite.

The King River Suite features a separate living room and bedroom, luxurious king coil bed, stylish furnishings, queen sofa bed, small kitchen, a 4 point bathroom with deep bath and shower, and last but certainly not least...a private wrap around balcony with a stunning river view.  Everything you could possibly need for a relaxing staycation at Southbank.

The room was immaculate, the bed sheets were crisp and the view was insane... We felt like we could reach out and touch the wheel of Brisbane from our balcony! We knew the view at night time would be pretty spectacular with all the gleaming lights of Southbank but what we hadn't anticipated was the mesmerizing sunset backdrop. If you are looking to spoil your special someone then pair that view with a nice wine (and a warm jumper), and you've got a beautiful weekend.

FOODIE PERKS

The foodie perks are endless at Rydges Southbank. You literally have one of Brisbane's most popular dining precincts at you doorstep! Mr. Fitz, Doughnut Time, Tipplers Tap, The Manhattan Line, Zeus Street Greak and more.... All of Southbank's delectable restaurants and bars are only a few minutes walk from your room.

If you'd rather avoid the maddening weekend crowds at Southbank, no worries, Rydges has you covered. Soleil Pool Bar, CBD Cafe, and the multi awarded fine dining restaurant, Bacchus, are only a elevator ride away and more than able to satisfy your cravings.

For more information and booking, head to the Rydges Southbank website, available here

Carl's Jr Brisbane Is Open For Business

BIG, DIRTY & CHEESY- America's biggest burger chain has officially landed in Brisbane.

Carl's Jr and their chargrilled thick burgers will now call the Brisbane airport domestic terminal home- and no, you don't need to book a flight to enjoy their delicious meat stacks.

The Brisbane store is the second Australian location for the takeaway giant with the first opening it's doors in February in Bateau Bay. At the Central Coast opening lines wrapped around the block and we are expecting similar maddening scenes as Brisbanites desperately try to get their hands on the American burger goodness.

Carl Jr's whose slogan is, "Eat Like You Mean It", menu features 100% Angus beef burgers (available in 1/3 lb or 1/2 lb)...grilled and fried chicken burgers...natural, criscut, and chili cheese fries...crispy chicken strips...onion rings...shakes...and ice cream cookie sandwiches for dessert. Breakfast is also available.

THE VERDICT:

Carls Jr is a cheap and quick burger fix that fulfills a space currently left vacant in the fast food market in Australia. The burger is huge, much larger than it's competitors, with the 1/2 pound thick burger even trumping the whopper in size. It is extremely good value for money, the average combo meal will run you about $10.90. Also, unlike it's competitors Carl's Jr offers bottomless drinks from it's soda fountains. The fountains can be accessed by customers and you are welcome to drink to your heart's content. So save yourself  some $ and grab a small cup! TIP: Try the chicken strips with honey mustard dipping sauce- you won't be disappointed.

If airport dining isn't your thing don't fret- Carl's Jr has plans to open 300 stories across the country over the next 10 years, with a good chunk of them being based in Queensland.

St. James Crabhouse & Kitchen | Kangaroo Point

Brisbane's first and ONLY American style crab house now calls Kangaroo Point home and we of course, had to pay them a visit.

Brisbane lawyer, Gideon James, opened St. James Crabhouse back in April, blessing the river city with it's own crustacean oasis! The idea to open the restaurant came to him when he saw a need for a good casual seafood restaurant in Brisbane.

Prepare to get down and dirty because St James stays true to the American style. Crabs are presented in plastic bags and you are welcome to leave your empty shells on the table. Guests are also fitted with a bib and gloves before they chow down, and trust us you'll need them...

The menu at St James features a mouthwatering seafood selection of fresh king crab, snow crab, blue swimmers, Jonah claws, Moreton bay bugs, prawns, and more! Each come with your choice of marinade like Baltimore Old Bay or the extremely popular Singaporean Chili.

Seafood isn't the only thing getting our foodie hearts racing on the St. James menu! You'll also find a tasty selection of American style burgers and ribs.

St James Crabhouse is open Mon to Wed (12pm- 10pm) & Thu to Sun (12pm-11pm)

Where to Find The Best Steaks in Brisbane

What's TENDER, JUICY, and best served MEDIUM RARE? Of course we are talking about glorious steak! Nothing says 'hello weekend' like a beautiful cut of meat with crispy chips, salad and a creamy sauce...If you agree then you are in luck because we've managed to track down some of the best steaks Brisbane has to offer. Prepare yourself- the meat sweats are coming.

Pineapple Hotel | Kangaroo Point

The Pineapple Hotel is without question one of our favorite pubs in Brisbane. We have yet to have a bad experience there and the steaks are a big reason why. Juicy, tender and and reasonably priced- if you are craving a quality cut of meat in the burbs head to Pineapple Hotel.

Bacchus | Southbank

If you are looking for a top shelf steak dining experience then look no further than Bacchus. Southbank. This place can do no wrong in our books. The steaks on the al a carte menu are next level and guaranteed to have any beef connoisseur salivating! Best of all the beautiful cuts of meat are locally sourced from the amazing John Dee Beef in Warrick. TIP: Try the 350g Scotch Fillet with Bearnaise Sauce and a side of chips. Go ahead and treat yourself!

Les Bubbles | Fortitude Valley

They have one signature dish and they do it well. Les Bubbles in Fortitude Valley have garnered quite the reputation around for their steak frites. Given that is is in fact the only savoury dish on their menu you would expect it to be pretty darn good. Well rest assured it is and after one visit you will be hooked. The steak comes medium rare with your choice of sauce, a salad and BOTTOMLESS fries. Run, don't walk.

Cabassi & Co | Indooroopilly

Cabassi & Co in the Indooroopilly shopping center is more than a artisan butcher, it's a steak restaurant. At Cabassi & Co guests are treated to a very unique experience. Pick out your own steak from the quality cuts of meats on display and watch it be cooked right in front of you. After all who knows better how a steak should be prepared than a butcher?!

Morrison Hotel | Woolloongabba

What kind of steak list would this be if we didn't mention the Morro! It is without a doubt one of Brisbane's most iconic steak resturannts and for good reason. You can always count on them for a juicy, perfectly cooked steak with a delicously smokey flavour. Our mouths are watering just thinking about it!

Know of a steak that should be on our list? Send us an email ameriausblog@gmail.com

Now Open: Casa Nostra Ristorante | Fortitude Valley

In case you didn't see the Story Bridge lit up in red, green, and white lights it's Italian week in Brisbane. And what better way to celebrate than with a visit to Brisbane's newest Italian ristorante - Casa Nostra

Biago and Sarah Biuso are the faces behind the newest addition to the M&A's budding dining precinct. Taking over the space previously occupied by Mighty Mighty Casa Nostra is bringing authentic, Sicilian comfort food to Brisbane and just in time for winter!

The Biuso's are no stranger to the hospitality game having spearheaded a number of incredibly popular restaurants you've no doubt heard like Red Hill's Biago, Alberto's Trattoria in Bondi, Zollis Trattoria in Townsville, and most recently Marina Paradiso in Cairns.

Much to their loyal fans delight they have returned from their stint in Cairns and have graciously blessed the heart of Fortitude Valley with a true Italian dining experience.

Casa Nostra means "Our House" in Italian. So expect to find authentic Italian dishes just like nonna use to make on the menu. Pizzas, pastas, dessert, and a unusually large range of seafood (and more) awaits at Casa Nostra. Everything at Casa Nostra is made in house from the pasta to the pizza sauces, using local seasonal ingredients.

Treat you taste buds to a trip to Sicily this weekend! Casa Nostra is Mon to Sat, noon - 2:30pm and 5:30pm to late.
